Rochester Mini Maker Faire – Nov. 22nd!

Please welcome our Guest Blogger, Dan Schneiderman:

Ever wonder what you could make with a 3D printer, how to build your own robot at home, or design your own game? Rochester is hosting it’s first Mini Maker Faire. Mini Maker Faires celebrate everyone who loves to make, create, craft, build and anything DIY. The inaugural Rochester event takes place on Saturday November 22nd, from 10am to 4pm at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. The day will be filled with exciting exhibitions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for all ages. In addition, there will be interesting presentations, speakers, live music, and visual and performing arts.

This past June, Mayor Lovely Warren represented Rochester at the first White House Maker Faire as a “Maker Mayor”, one of only a few designated as such across the nation.  Rochester was also designated a Maker City.

Maker Faire is an international movement to celebrate innovation and creativity around the globe. The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2013 celebrated its eighth annual show with some 900 makers and 120,000 people in attendance. World Maker Faire New York, the other flagship event, has grown in four years to 600+ makers and 75,000 attendees. Mini Maker Faires are smaller events that take place all around the world, including Columbus, MIT, Toronto, and recently Buffalo.

Some of the exhibits that can be seen at the faire include several 3D printers, workshops on knitting and soldering, crafts you can take home, a LEGO reproduction of the Rochester Airport, and a world record breaking toothpick sculpture. We will have around 75 interactive maker exhibits at the faire, and another 18 commercial booths selling handmade items.

Tickets can be bought at the door, or online. Advance tickets can be purchased from Nov 1st until the day of the Rochester Mini Maker Faire at a substantial discount from the at the door prices.
