COURSE DESCRIPTION
Using their own videocameras and transfer cable (Firewire, USB, or memory card), students are taught effective camera motion and digital editing techniques along with planning effective shot-lists for capturing quality footage that will bring out the best in their creative filming endeavors. Starting with understanding and mastery of proper camera stabilization techniques, students will then move on to learning effective camera motion techniques that will captivate the viewers’ attention. These techniques will involve a variety of camera angles including the Dutch, wide shot, bird’s eye view, ¾-shot, medium, and the close-up as well as specific motion techniques such as panning, tilting, trucking in and out, raising the camera from low to high position (simulated crane, with or without monopod), along with popular cinematic techniques such as reveal shots, jarring, and surrounding panoramic motions. Instruction will also be provided on the importance of including a structured shot-list as an integral part of a video production script. In addition, emphasis will be placed on the efficiency of editing your raw footage. This course prepares students well for entering filmmaking contests with planning, capturing, and editing quality footage that will showcase their developing skill set and talents!
For an optional full-day camp experience, campers can register for afternoon Fencing Camps (the intellectual sport) and bring their lunch. Staff from the Rochester Fencing Club will walk campers from the classroom to the cafeteria and then on to the gym for a full day of exercising both mind and body!
