VEX IQ Robotics Tournaments Debuting in Greater Rochester Area

Allendale Columbia School is hosting the first ever, Greater Rochester Area, VEX IQ Robotics Tournaments! The smaller, Regional Qualifying Tournament is scheduled for 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM Sunday, January 17th followed by the NY Upstate Championships scheduled for a full day of tournament rounds on Sunday, February 21st with numerous teams from around the state already registered!

The VEX IQ Robotics System provides for both autonomous programming as well as team driver/remote control navigation with a strong emphasis on structural & mechanical engineering design and performance. Incorporating real-world competition requirements, student teams (of two) strategically collaborate – in real time – with robot navigation and manipulation throughout all their assigned as well as, ranked, team alliances. Each robotics team will also have the opportunity to individually score (with one robot and two of their team drivers) during the Robot Skills Challenge rounds.

There will be special guest Tournament Judges from corporate engineering and the Rochester Engineering Society. We will be looking for even more volunteers to serve as Tournament Judges and Referees for the upcoming, and much anticipated, State Championships on Sunday, February 21st. Please contact if you would be interested in volunteering for this exciting STEM event.

Both VEX IQ Robotics Tournaments (grades 4–8) are sponsored by Allendale Columbia School and iDesign Solutions.

The Vista Teach STEM Team at Allendale Columbia School continues to support the formation of VEX IQ Robotics Teams throughout the Greater Rochester Area with offering their volunteer Informational and Coach Training Sessions at the school as well as with presenting at local PTSA and other organizational meetings. More Coach Training Sessions will be scheduled in the Spring and the STEM Team encourages those who are interested in forming competitive robotics teams to attend one of the upcoming events.

There is no spectator fee and we hope you will spread the word about these free and exciting STEM events at Allendale Columbia School. The Qualifying Robotics Tournament on Sunday, January 17, will be a half-day event with competition rounds beginning at 9:30 AM. We hope you can come out and cheer on all the teams at this event or, at the following, all-day, State Championships scheduled for Sunday, February 21st!
